Lessons in Machine Piecing:  Triangles

Wednesday and Thursday (October 8 & 9)

Two day class – Beginning level - $130.00  

 

 

 

Learn how to size and cut triangles for different positions in your quilt designs, where to place the straight grain, and how to trim points for easy matching.  Use the Bias Square and Precision Trimmer rulers to make accurate triangle units.  Learn to make Sawtooth, Hourglass, Flying Geese, Pinwheel and Square-in-a-Square units as well as a Dogtooth and Chain of Squares borders.  The class project will be based on Marsha McClosky’s Parisian Garden quilt from her book Blended Quilts.  (This class will be held at the 4H building).

 

Supply List

bulletRotary cutter with new blade, cutting mat, and cutting rulers (include a large square, if you have one).  8” Bias square ruler and precision trimmer 6” ruler.  Large sheet of 1/8” graph paper (available in class for $.25) and drawing ruler (C-thru-B-85).
bulletSharp pencil, eraser and colored pencils. 
bulletFabrics:  1 ¾  yards of a focus print for borders and some piecing.  Bring 1 yard each of several different coordinating prints:  A light, 2 light mediums, a medium and a dark.  Include a variety of scales and visual textures.  You are encouraged to bring more fabrics (fat quarters and ½ yards are ok) so you have more design choices. 
bulletSewing machine and normal sewing supplies. 
bulletTravel iron and ironing mat. 
bulletDesign wall—piece of flannel or dense batting.
