Beginning Needle Turn Appliqué
One day class –
Monday
Beginner - $65.00
Students will learn
basic needle turn appliqué skills using a Folk Art Tree pattern designed to
provide practice at inside and outside points as well as curves and an
introduction to reverse appliqué. Pattern fee $5.00 per pattern on the
center panel only, pattern and tips will be provided for finishing the wall
hanging on your own. ttern in class handout.

Supply
List

Mechanical
and white quilters' pencils: To mark your appliqué pieces.
Graphic for light fabrics, white for dark. |

Black
'Sakura' brand Pigma pen (optional): Size .05 or .08 is preferable. |

Freezer
paper: Available in supermarkets on a roll or in 8 1/2" x
11" sheets at some quilt shops, you will need one sheet or 12"
from a roll. |

Appliqué
needles: Sharps, Milliners' or Straw needles, size 10 (I prefer size
11 milliners made by Richard Hemming & Sons thgouth they are harder to
thread). |

Needle
threader: If you need one, CLover makes a dandy one that will thread
needles in the dark. |
 |
Thread:
In colors to match your appliqué fabrics, silk is preferred but 100% cotton
will do. Do not use polyester, cotton covered polyester or
rayon. |

Pins:
Appliqué or other fine thin pins such as silk pins. |
 |
Template
plastic: 8 1/2" x 11" sheet, make sure you buy the heat
resistant Mylar kind. |

Scissors:
Fine jawed embroidery scissors are crucial to cut the fine appliqué
details. You will also need utility scissors for your freezer paper
and plastic templates. |

Black
'Sharpie' brand marking pen: Use only the 'Sharpie' brand, the fine
point not the ultra fine. |

One
clear sheet protector: Available at office supply stores, this is
absolutely necessary. |

Plain
evenlope: For storing your templates. |
 |
Seam
ripper. |
 |
Sheet
of #400-grit sandpaper: Optional, this is handy for stabilizing fabric
while you mark your appliqué pieces. Do not buy anything coarser than
#400-grit. |
 |
Wooden
toothpicks: Optional, but many quilters find them useful for the
needle turn method. |

Fabrics:
Colors can be your own choice, but please keep contrast in mind when
selecting them. Fat Quarters will be sufficient though I have provided
minimum measurements for some appliqué pieces for you scrap savers.
