CAROLE LIEBZEIT is all about color! She is a year-round resident of Jackson Hole, Wyoming and travels worldwide inspiring quilters to stretch their color boundaries. The color wheel, nature and tribal textiles all help to encourage Carole to develop new color strategies. A degree in Art and background in art education help provide goals for her students to gain color confidence and skills to try anything they want in their quilt or wearable art efforts. Carole has exhibited her award winning quilts and garments and has been featured in a variety of media – both TV and print in the U.S. and Europe. Carole was also a 10 year participant in the Fairfield Fashion show. Her close friendships with national teachers like Jinny Avert, Caryl Bryer Fallert and Margaret Miller has resulted in a number of collaborations in past years.
Colorful Circles
– A Color Class Two day class –
Thursday and Friday
Colorful circles will knock your socks
off! The instructor has always
approached circles with caution but loves this approach and so will you.
Students will cut four sections for a quarter circle block and end up
eventually with a 12” finished circular motif square block.
Quilts made with these blocks can have a traditional or contemporary
feeling. Color strategies are
endless and a great deal of color confidence and color education is introduced.
New terms will be added to your vocabulary like “split half circles”
and “overlapping planes” – geometry was never this fun! (This
class will be held at the 49’er Inn & Suites).

List
Fabrics:
The success of this quilt depends upon the bright, rich fabrics you
choose. Using large scale prints
will add a lot of zip and mini prints will read as solids.
I use solids only when I need a certain color impact, but hardly ever!
Looking at a color wheel will give you some hints for color strategies
using direct color. Contrasts:
Blue and orange, red violet and lime or blue violet and yellow orange.
Theme prints:
All vegetable & fruits in the circles with a common background
throughout, all florals in the circles or all juvenile prints.
Having light, medium and dark values will offer the chance of strong
contrasts. Rich prints of all sorts
will combine well; such as stripes, paisleys, florals and geometrics.
The more fabrics you are able to bring, the better.
Fabrics combining many colors (blenders) can be very useful both in quilt
and as a binding later. 4 ˝”
strips of fabric work perfectly with templates if you wish to pre-cut any.
We can make anything work. Materials fee:
$15.00 for a set of acrylic circle
templates. Instructor will have
assorted 4 ˝” strips pre-cut to add to our quilt if necessary. |
